At University Loft, One Tree Yields Twenty Solid Wood Student Dorm Room Desks

University Loft trees yield 20 student desksJames Jannetides loves trees. The University Loft Company founder not only started the college and university student furniture company that stands tall among residence life suppliers; he has also personally started – as in planted – dozens of trees. But even beyond Jannetides’s love for, and commitment to, the environment, he also demands that trees harvested for use in University Loft student furniture are fully utilized. That means that each tree yields 20 student desks. Let’s take a closer look:

It starts, of course, with choosing the right type of tree for the best wood. At University Loft, we don’t use Northern Red Oak that some consider the standard. No, we found something better. At ULoft, we plant and harvest and use the wood from a fast-growing type of hardwood rubber tree. A rubber tree? Well, yes. Among the great things about the Hevea Brasiliensis (HB) tree are that it 1) has been proven stronger than oak, 2) grows far more quickly (so it can be harvested and replanted sooner) AND 3) it produces a form of latex that can be tapped during its life cycle. And because the HB tree can yield all those student desks, fewer trees need to be harvested! This makes HB a perfect – and environmentally responsible – choice for University Loft’s strong and durable student furniture.

Yes, James Jannetides loves trees and loves the environment. But he also loves building superior, solid wood modular student furniture for residence halls and dorm rooms. Gotta love that kind of commitment to doing things right.
