It seems only fitting, doesn’t it, that the headquarters for University Loft Company – a global leader in the design and manufacture of environmentally-responsible (“green”) furniture for college – should be in a city called Greenfield. That’s Greenfield, Indiana, to be exact. And Greenfield, Indiana isn’t just University Loft Company’s headquarters location; it’s also a place of inspiration for us.
You see, Greenfield, not far from Indianapolis, still has plenty of, well, green fields. So when we look out from our huge headquarters/manufacturing facility/showroom off interstate 70, we find lots of motivation for helping protect those field and keeping our planet green. How do we do it? How does University Loft Company help protect planet Earth and all the still-green cities, towns and farmlands?
For starters, we use Environmentally Farmed Timber (EFT) that grows faster and performs better than Northern Red Oak. In fact, our EFT hardwood timber matures to a harvestable state in just 20 years. That means three trees can be grown and used for our green college furniture in the time it takes one oak to grow. But don’t be fooled by that rapid growth; our EFT is stronger than oak, as verified by independent laboratory testing.
We don’t stop there. In our Greenfield manufacturing facility, for example, we recycle our cardboard boxes and use them to protect our student furniture during shipping. And we print our college furniture catalogs on-demand, meaning that we don’t keep a large supply of “used trees” just sitting around on shelves.
