University Loft Company was born from independent thinking. Just like our nation’s founding fathers, University Loft’s founder, James Jannetides, had a better idea while a student at Southern Illinois University. It was there, in his dorm room, that James conceived the idea to elevate his bed so other dorm room furnishings could be positioned beneath to maximize space. While other independent thinkers might have stopped there, James forged ahead and soon had hundreds of SIU students using his loft bed system. And just like that, University Loft Company was born.
Over the years, University Loft has continued to improve, refine and innovate our college residence life furniture products. Today, our solid wood modular dorm room furniture is found in more than a thousand colleges and universities around the world. Part of our residence life success is surely due to the fact that our hardwood furniture material has been proven stronger than the oak used by many other manufacturers. In those tests, University Loft Company compared a complete range of our case goods against a national competitor. During these tests at Federal Testing Laboratories, the products endured repeated cycles of pressure at a certain weight. Time and time again, University Loft’s furniture products continued to excel while our competitor’s products failed. Simply put, our super-strong environmentally farmed timber, coupled with our superior construction techniques, make for better dorm room furniture.
