At University Loft Company, we don’t just build cool student furniture for dorm rooms and on-campus residence life; we also help build better college living and learning environments. With that in mind, here are ten mobile apps (free, or with free versions as of this posting) college students should research and perhaps consider using to help make their college experience more productive:
1. School Helper:
This Android app helps (naturally) you track and manage assignments, notes, performance benchmarks, grades and more.
2. Evernote Peek:
If you use an iPad, this app can help turn class notes into study questions even if your notes are audio- or image-based. With your iPad Smart Cover, you can even lift a portion of the cover to see the question and then another section to reveal the answer.
3. StudyBlue Flashcards:
This app can help you take advantage of millions of user-created electronic flashcards to aid memorization when cramming for an exam. You can also set reminders to stay on task for studying. (Android, iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone)
4. Dragon Dictation:
Speak your thoughts, notes, questions or reminders and let this app turn your dictation into text-based notes. (iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone)
5. Google Translate:
Easy language-to-language translations by text or voice, plus online dictionaries in more than 30 languages. There’s even a conversation mode for near real-time discussions with someone who speaks a language different than yours. (Android, iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone)
A group collaboration app to help organize and manage large projects by assigning and tracking individual responsibilities. (Android, iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone)
Easy to use cloud-based file sharing system for group collaboration or reference. (Android, iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone)
8. Amazon Student
This app lets you snap a photo of a textbook’s barcode, and then informs you where to get it at the best price. You can also use the app to exchange used textbooks for Amazon gift cards. (Android, iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone)
An app for the most popular textbook rental company. Like the Amazon Student app, Chegg lets you scan a book’s bar code and compare their prices to other retailers’. (iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone)
10. Wi-Fi Finder
The title of this app says it all. Find nearby wi-fi hotspots on campus and off. Wi-Fi Finder can also provide directions and phone numbers for listed locations. (Android, iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone)
What are some of your favorite mobile apps for college students? University Loft wants to know! In the meantime, kick back on your University Loft bunk bed and cram for that exam!
